Deforestation & Consumption

Exploring the huge increase in social responsibility and environmental consciousness in recent time, we created a website and motion graphic intended to raise awareness of our impact on forests and how we can consume smarter to create a solution to deforestation. We looked to explain the issue of deforestation a simple way, while being as emotive as possible to ensure response. We pushed consuming smarter through our project in a simple manner by giving the problems and threats we face and exploring how we can help solve them through simple change. The emotional response we wanted to create is designed to promote self-analysis of our own impact on the environment.

Web Walk-through

We tried to imagine our website as the place in which we convince the viewer to consume smarter. Our front cover of our website is the story teller. It is a pretty face in which we hook in the viewer. The body is the information page, the parts people get to know after they are caught by the attraction of the face. A tree is the main focal point of the front page. It interacts with the user crashing and falling triggered by the page by page scroll. We used this to create a hierarchy emphasising trees importance but also the theme throughout our work of the users/ consumers own impacts on the environment. The flow of the page is where we tell our story. As the viewer scrolls down, the tree falls into each environment (problem or solution) which helps create flow and narrate the story. We believe this is and presenting our objective in differing methods video or illustration is key to keeping the user on the website for longer, allowing for a deeper cognitive response.

The motion graphics plays on the idea of the direct impact printing has on our forests, putting the viewer in the printer’s shoes. We are exaggerating the idea that each paper printed is a tree falling. We used strong sound production to enhance the mood of the. The sounds are meant to scare, create grit, move and impact the viewer. It is a graphic attack that contains an intensity and disturbance to hold the seriousness of this issue. We are looking to persuade the viewer that our printing has big impact and such a small thing as reducing font size by 1 can have such a big effect.
